The Benefits of Taking Cod Liver Oil.
Cod Liver Oil, the facts
Taking cod liver oil supplements is a wise decision for anyone. I say this with confidence as I had taken them for more years than I care to remember. I stopped taking them about a year ago on the advice of our Doctor. He believed that because I had been taking them for so long that there was no obvious reason to continue taking them as a supplement. I had sufficient levels of Omega3 and was getting enough from my diet which includes regular oily fish.
We all take advice from our Doctors, but sometimes thay don't always know what is in our best interests. Sometimes you have to go with your own instinct and facts.
Since I stopped taking them I have recently suffered with back to back colds, something which I hadn't had virtually all the time I was taking the tablets.
Omega3 is needed in order to fight off infections and boosts the immune system. Call it coincidence if you like, but I believe it is more than that and this product does exactly what it says on the bottle.

Omega3 for a healthy immune system.
In the early 1990s a study was carried out using the Inuit tribe of Alaska as they consume large amounts of fatty acids from fish in their daily diet. It was found that they had very low levels of heart disease to the point that it was virtually non existent. This in turn means that blood pressure levels amongst these people is as good if not better than you will find anywhere else in the world.
Various studies have been carried out in association with Omega3 intake and many benefits have been uncovered.
Health promotion seems to be the watchword of these little golden capsules. There are various theories backed up by hard evidence that these supplements have major health benefits to people who take them on a daily basis.
- Reduced risk of certain types of cancer ( bowel cancer)
- Cardiovascular disease
- Control od blood pressure
- Benefits to pregnant women
- Reduced risk of mental health episodes.
- Joint and muscle suppleness improvements
Foods containing fatty acids.
Foods which contain Omega3 and other fatty acids are abundant and should be made part of your daily diet.
- Oily fish such as Tuna and Mackeral
- Vegetables
- Eggs
- Lean red meat
- Turkey
- Rice, pasta
- Fruit
- Milk
- Bread
- Flaxseed
- Butternuts
- Walnuts
- Pecans
- Hazel Nuts
We can all add some of the above foods to our daily diet as well as taking Omega3 supplements.
It is difficult to evaluate whether taking this type of supplement does have any benefit as we can not see anything tangible. In my case it seems too much of a coincidence for this not to be the case so I am happy to start taking them again with the hope that I will not have any repeat cold infections in the near future.
Aching limbs and joints?
Probably the most recognised improvements which can be achieved by taking Cod Liver Oil is increased lubrication to joints and muscles. Omega3 can bring significant relief to joints which cause pain and discomfort. Inflammation in the joints is thought to be a major cause of pain and the pain relieving qualities of the product as well as the anti inflammatory effect it can bring.
Anyone who suffers with aching or stiff joints can get significant relief in a relatively short time if my experience in this subject is anything to go by.
