Please Don't Follow Me If............

Updated on June 19, 2013

This is me being honest.

Please don't follow me if you have some ulterior motive for pressing the follow button.

When I say this I mean that just because you have chosen to follow poshcoffeeco.hubpages.com does not and should not give you the right of passage to a new and guaranteed follow back.

It doesn't work like that for me.

When I follow someone on hub pages or anywhere else for that matter, I do so because I like what I have read and I have a genuine interest for the subject. We've all been there and followed someone in return for them following you.

A while ago I made the decision to only follow fellow writers who have similar interests that I have as well as writing about subjects that interest me also. I came to the conclusion that it wasn't fair to follow just because a person had followed me.

In my view you should only follow ones who interest you and not do people favours for following you.

No favours here.

I must apologise now as you will get no favours from me. I do this now because I have probably lost as many followers as the number I have now. You keep seeing when you log into your hub pages account that you have a new follower. If you are like me, then you go to their hub pages to see what you can learn. If the person writes about topics of interest then I follow. If they don't write on topics I am into then I don't follow.

By not following it would seem that many hub pagers decide that If I don't follow back, then they will revoke their follow, hence a lost follower for me.

You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours should not be the case here. Surely we all want followers who want to read what we have to offer. We don't want someone to follow then never read one of our articles again.

There is life outside hubpages.

Some may not believe it but as writers we want our articles to be read, not just on this platform, but outside also. Our aim has got to be traffic from Google and other search engines. Why?

Because this is where you will make money. You will not make money if all of your traffic is from within hubpages. You won't get clicks on your AdSense ads for a start, whereas getting traffic from the search engines means you will get clicks and you will make money.

So you see there really is life outside of hubpages. It is down to you to seek out the best traffic you can get by being the best article writer you can.

Make money.

Make money, and you will make money if you concentrate at getting good at just one thing.

WRITING ARTICLES. Sounds simple doesn't it? Well I have found it to be the case.

STOP wasting your time on Facebook on those mutual writers appreciation pages, you read mine, I'll read yours type sites because it really does waste your time. Writing good quality content which people want to read is what you are here for. Social networking is great but it takes you away from the task at hand and stands in the way of what you are trying to achieve.

My best advice is to limit your time on these sites.

It took me far too long to realise this and it is only recently that my page views and earnings are slowly beginning to increase. Before I was a busy fool. Now I am busy concentrating on what I am doing and not what others are doing.

Shame on you.

If you are that person who follows only to be followed in return. Shame on you if you revoke your follow if after a day or two if the person doesn't reciprocate and follow you back. What you need to do is get real, get working on you by writing for all you are worth and accept that you will get followers, but also accept that they follow because they like what you do and are not following as a favour because you followed them.

Don't want to take my word for it ?

I recommend you read another person's view on the subject, that of fellow article writer Marti Coetser and her article titled -

HubPages - A Feasible Working Schedule for Warm-Hearted Hubbers

Tell me what you think.

Do you agree that we should only follow if we are interested in the subjects the writer writes about.

Start building your future.

It will be tough for you if you are used to having lots of internal comments and fan mail. In order to build your financial future you need to get tough on you. Once you stop following anything that moves you will have more time to do what you came here to do. None of us came here to have everything given to us on a plate. Hard work is what it will take to get the recognition we need from big G. Spend your time writing and not just talking about it.You owe it to yourself.

Let me know what you think.

Do you share the same thoughts as me on the subject? Leave a comment below and let me know your views. But please, only follow if you like what I do. Follow by all means but if your work doesn't float my boat, then I won't be following in return.
