Time Where Does It Go To?
73Hub 11 in the 30/30 Hub Challenge
Time ( Wednesday18th Jan 2012) 12:00 to 13:00
Have you ever just sat there and watched time just disappear?
There are certain times of the day when time disappears faster than at others. One of my fastest losers of time is the time between getting out of bed to going to work. The lunch hour, then the time after getting home from work to going to bed.
But the ultimate of them all is actually going to bed. The six or seven hours just fly by when asleep.
To me what makes time fly is not the fact that I am enjoying myself at doing a particular task, but that is sometimes true, I suppose. No, it's the fact that sometimes I do things which I don't enjoy or don't want to be doing. A classic example is the four letter word again.... W>O>R>K. The time at work does mostly go quickly. So if time goes quickly when doing something you don't want to be doing, it sure as hell goes twice as fast when doing the opposite, something you do like.
Analyse your life.....who me?
I have spent a lot of time analysing my life recently for one reason or another. Must be the time of year, new year and all that. My biggest fear is the amount of time I am spending working because I have to. 2/3rds of my life is spent at work and virtually the other 1/3rd is spent in bed recovering from the rest of the time at work....asleep.
Am I boring you or making you miserable?
'Both'!
Oh good!
Then it will make you realise or come to the same conclusions as me, don't get me wrong, I know we have to make a living to stay afloat in these difficult times, but it doesn't make the situation any easier.
When we are young, say between 16 and 45 we seem to have all the time in the world. We raise the kids, they grow up and no longer need you as much and you find that you do actually have more time on your hands.
This is the stage where I am at, sort of.
For most of my working life, no, all of my working life I have worked 12 hours a day, at least 5 days a week. As previously said, I don't mind working hard, but I'd like something in return. Over the last 7 to 10 years I haven't been seeing enough of a return for the exchange of my time for money.
Drastic change is what it takes.
We know this, yet we do nothing about it to break the cycle. I have just kept doing he same old thing hoping for a different result. Well let me tell you friends, it don't work. There has to be a drastic change in our lives to force this issue to make us find a way that does work.
It all comes down again to finding the vehicle to allow us to get rid of the job and the shackles which come with employment.
It is so strange writing an article about TIME or lack of it which leads on to work issues. But when you think about it we spend more of our lives there.
As I write part of this I am on my lunch break in a cold van cab in the middle of wind swept Long Sutton in East Anglia and wondering to myself, 'why am I doing this?'
Oh god! it's raining now, what a miserable January day. The one thing that is keeping me going today is that I can't wait to clock off at 6:30pm, go home, have a meal and set to and write this article up on Hub Pages.
There I go again.....I'm now wishing my life away wanting it to be 6:30pm, that's a whole 6 hours away. Who am I to complain that time is going too fast, then wish it away to do something I enjoy so much.
If only there was a magic answer. The writing is a hobby and one I have only recently come across during the last 6 months. Where will it lead to , I don't know as yet, but it is where I feel most at ease with myself. Can it turn into a career, I'm not so sure. Over time it could be a possibility. I will still be happy doing it either way.
Can I stay the distance and make it happen....mmm that is the big question. I have quit various things in my time before a project has come to fruition. I don't feel the same about my writing. At the moment I am doing the 30/30 Hub Challenge : 30 hubs in 30 days and it has got me so fired up and I thought when I first started that I wouldn't have enough material for 30 Hubs. How wrong was I, everyday new ideas are born and stored ready for the right TIME. There it is again. TIME!
Are you thirsty for more?
Conclusion
The conclusion I have come to is this.
It's time to go back to work and finish this when I get home.
So for now I will leave you with this almost finished article and you will just have to wait until tomorrow for the final instalment of 'Time where does it go to'
Sorry for being so cruel. It is the only way I could think of to get you to come back tomorrow and it leads me straight into another hub with a set of readers who, in the words of Macauley Culkin in Home Alone, 'Are you thirsty for more?'
Watch out tomorrow then for
'Time, where does it go to, it's gone!'
Hopefully you will get the answers you may be searching for.
Thanks for reading.
The time now is 21:45pm and it has been a long day...almost my bed time.

Very funny - now I know where my last 10 minutes went but that's about it:) lol. I guess I'll have to tune in tomorrow). Great hub - funny and everything else! Haha were you sitting in a van? Down by the river posh? Lol
The older you get, the faster time flies! My worst time is in the morning. I get my coffee, turn on my computer to check my email and BAM, it's ten o'clock! Uh, oh... what happened to those 3 hours? In fact, what happened to the last 20 years? I know you have the answer... :)
I hate the tick-tick of a clock, as it reminds me that time is something we cannot control and we don't always control how we spend it. I'll be back tomorrow.
Time, time, I have nothing but time. But is it really my time to have nothing of? Time is such an abstract thing to me right now...its late. But according to who? Is it really tomorrow in another part of the world and have we lost half the day from one another? Great hub to get me thinking Posh, see you tomorrow. But its already after midnight here and after 6 am there so I will see you soon.
Time flies when you are having fun! This hub was a fun one and I am waiting for more! It does go by quick when you are sleeping and it moves even quicker in the late afternoon. Be back. :)
You know when I was in my teens I seemed to always be thinking I still have one more hour to enjoy before I have to go home. Young adulthood the evening is stll young. Now I need 48 hours in one day, the evenings have got grey streaks in their hair lol, and I always wonder where the time went to. Hate to think what it will be like in old age. Yikes!!!
If you view time as consubstancial it makes it easier, I think. Interesting article.
This is the question we all ask ourselves;a great read.
Take care and enjoy your day.
Eddy.
To me it seems like time goes faster as I grow older. Interesting hub.
Posh, time does go by so darn fast. I can't believe we left California 12 years ago now out of work since 2009.
One thing not to do is look in a mirror because it's scary.
You know what they say, " Time flies when you're having fun " So my philosophy, " Have fun " Cheers
Reading this hub I truly felt you Steve. (And don't worry not in a homo-erotic way.) Time doth fly. Two weeks and I am 30. What happened to the rest of my life and why do I feel so tired already? These are the questions that I ask myself daily. Great hub and great thoughts! On to the next one. :)
steve this is a really fun hub to read and one I'm sure we can all relate too. I enjoy your writing. Keep it up!
love the Home alone movie. time.. yes you are right it fly's out the window...right now I am house bound.. LOL.. would love to run out the door..
Take care my friend

You know what they say Steve...Time flies when you're having fun!!! I've noticed since I started the 30/30 time has slowed down! Have you noticed that also? Great HUB!!
