Work An Extra 12 Minutes A Day.......Who Me ?
68
What Do You Think Of This ?
I was listening to The Jeremy Vine show on BBC Radio 2 today and he did a piece about how Britons could be expected by their employers to work an extra 12 minutes per day in order to give the economy the kick start it needs for recovery.
Have you ever heard anything so utterly stupid ? If politicians of this country think that by workers doing an extra 12 minutes work per day will sort out all their blundering mistakes with the economy they have another thing coming.
I mean... who in their right minds would believe that this would be the answer to the country and the world's economic crisis?
If That Wasn't Bad Enough........
there was another idiot in on the piece who had the nerve to add that the workers of the country should do the extra time for nothing for goodness sake! He really did believe that by doing this it would make our exports cheaper and more competitive because the goods would be manufactured more cheaply because the labour costs in the manufacture of the products is reduced due to the fact that the workers are doing the extra 12 minutes for nothing. It later told you that this guy had his own company so he would be exploiting the situation and his workers for his and his companies own gain.
I wonder how many more companies would expect their workers to do this for nothing?
I suspect most would if given the chance.
Strange how the day before the programme was discussing a case in the Midlands where vulnerable people were being tricked into living on a permanent travellers site. Once on site the victims were put in sheds and locked up against their will then put to work by gangmasters who would keep them as slaves. Everybody was in uproar about it.''What!'' they said '' Slavery in the 21st century''. In my view the suggestion that workers should do work for nothing amounts to the same thing.
People who go out to work in this country do so to feed their families and keep a roof over their heads. The sooner the lunatics in Government realise this the better. Too many people in this country in the 21st century are working through lunch breaks, do not have breaks away from their desks and places of work. Some even take work home with them. Britain has the longest working hours of any of the European countries and should be looking to reduce working hours not increase them for the good of the Government.

Hell will freeze over first......
before I work an extra 12 minutes per day for nothing. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful to have a job and mostly enjoy what I do. But there are 2.5 Million people in this country who are not so fortunate.
After already working for 31 years from leaving school I have lost count of how many hours I have put in for nothing already. Losing an hour a week in pay does not appeal to me one little bit and hell will freeze over first before I do it.
Far too many employers in this country are taking advantage of the fact that workers are scared of losing their jobs and will do anything to keep it. This is just one thing closer to intimidation in my book.

What more do these people want from us? Blood? I was chuckling through your hub because it sounded insanely ridiculous, but it actually got me quite worked up. The people running our Countries seem to come up with the most hair-brained ideas...if any of them had to work a real job themselves then they surely wouldn't suggest such an idea! Like you, I give many unpaid minutes and seconds to my Employer for free already. 12 more? No thank you.
Cloverleaf
What I think is comical is that the politicians in the US want us to give them more in taxes, so they can spend more? They already make more than Most of us do and are independently wealthy. They need to donate all of the salaries to the country and quit messing with mine.
I wonder what this person was actually doing the moment that this brilliant idea came to them. Maybe they were eating a lunch that didn't sit well on their tummy, or maybe they had a toothache. Or maybe they had a brain f%*t. Who knows. A workman is worthy of his hire. Pay the people for the time they put into their work. You can't get something for nothing ~ and why should you? Resentment is a stumbling block, not a building block.
I am so with you on this one!
Got to laugh at how absurd the suggestion is. If adding 12 minutes can solve world economy, that would be a piece of cake. Quite like the answer Marie Antoinette gave, "Let them eat cake," when asked what she should do with starving people (of course, this point is quite often disputed...did she really say it?). But whatever, it shows how out of touch the people up there are.
Interesting and nicely written Hub. Thank you for sharing this story and your opinion.
I remember only too well my one hand holding my sandwich and one hand continuing to work lunches in the U.S. Now here in Riga, Latvia the economy is in the toilet. You can't win stick to your rights and don't ever give in.

My take on these darn politicans is they act like children always wanting their own way, especially here in the U.S.
